Hi Katherine, I find people evaluate from their own reasoning, having been and Atheist for nearly 30 years and a Christian for the same and then being in Ministry witnessing to Atheists I know it is not just about just proving their right, perhaps for those who have hardened beyond hope but many are still searching, yes they are brutally honest and can be very hard in their statements and responses but it comes from fear and confusion, no one can prove God does not exist and we all know that is true deep down because we were created in His image and part of us will always want unity with Him even if you don’t recognise or acknowledge it and denying it will not change that.
In all the time I ministered to Atheists, not one could prove that God didn’t exist just by saying it and there is no proof which was not too hard to point out to them, mostly their denial is based on the god of Evolution which apart from those things that agree with Creation there is no proof for, surprisingly many admitted it when it was shown to be true as they sought to prove I was in error but they still rejected God, why because of their egos perhaps with some but still they were left with major doubts about what they thought was true and doubts can cause people to search again, we must never give up on anyone only God knows their eternal destiny and True Love won’t give up anyway. What became very apart was that many had been hurt or those they loved had been by those who claimed to be Christians but who only talk about Love they do not show it but instead seek to attack, slander or ignore those that don’t agree with them and this is because they don’t know their God either, they trust in their own logic, reasoning and fleshy understanding instead of seeking God’s wisdom and His leading, Jesus is only Teacher and will guide us into all Truth sadly their egos are bigger then the Atheists or their confusion and fear is.
