My Life:
An ongoing battle with myself;
the regret, the depression, they overtake my life.
From the pills to the razor blades;
the self-hate to the regret.
This or that.
Here or there.
My life is never worth it;
my life is never good enough…
But victory! I have a Savior!
Hope is still fresh,
for His love abounds all!
Now, I take heart,
for my God fights for me.
I see Him take me in;
the despair, the pain ->
His hands heal all,
His mercy has no limit.
My battle may not be over,
but this battle has already been won!
Your Life:
You’re trapped in your mind,
fighting yourself.
You’re fearful, and you’re hurt;
you see no more joy.
You and me,
we face those same giants.
I see the pain,
I see it all over.
You’ve lost that light;
you say you finally gave up.
Every heart is breaking.
This world is failing us.
Hold on.
Look up.
The light’s not gone!
You and me,
we’re not that different.
Just like for me,
God fights for you.
Your battle may not be over,
but this battle has already been won!
In the Greek when regarding the full armor of God, the translation has in mind that we fight FROM victory not for it. Wonderful artistic style!
I love this concept! The victory has already been made.
Hi Elizabeth…
Depression? Self-hate? Oh, girl…been there. Still go in and out. And still He is there always, and you spread the word….beautiful.
You remind me of some Leonard Cohen lyrics which I talked about on my blog the other day…
“Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything –
That’s how the light gets in.”
Now, as for YOUR poetry — these are my favorite lines:
Every heart is breaking.
This world is failing us.
I will be coming back
.
I really love those lyrics! Thank you for sharing!
God Bless!
