The answers aren’t handed out with our birth certificates. We must journey to find the life we prize.
The guide we have been given is the desire set deep within, the desire we often overlook or mistake for something else or even choose to ignore.
The Journey of Desire – J. Eldredge
A longing desire within.
It’s in all of us.
We all know there is something more, something greater for us.
Yet many times we get wrapped up in our own desires,
that we forget our personal plans for life are not always what has already been written for us.
We were already made with purpose.
We need not be so quick to abandon this.
Or substitute in our own selfish plans.
It’s already there.
Now, we may not know the exact map to our desires, but they are there.
In our hearts.
We try so hard to form our own molds for our lives, that we forget we have already been made with purpose, desire, and a hopeful future.
Truth is,
our desires and plans are never worthy enough.
We become scared.
Fearful to step out of our comfort zones,
afraid of discomfort and change,
we are never truly able to discover our deepest desires and purposes.
We hide behind contentment and worldly riches, hoping nobody, including ourselves,
will ever realize the un-rest and un-happiness within us.
I was there.
I tried to tip-toe through my choices and plans.
I tried to avoid my heart calling me elsewhere.
I stood still when I knew I was supposed to move.
I even ran when I was supposed to stay.
In fact, I’m still there.
Alas, there is hope.
If there is anything I have learned through this repetitive process,
it’s that you cannot run from the desires planted in your heart.
Despite our foolish efforts to run from it, manipulate it, or mask it,
we will never get far, and it will never change.
God knows us to well, to allow our hearts to be fooled by ourselves.
Sometimes its even hard.
More often than we think, we become blinded by our own plans, and therefore God decides to throw a rock in our path.
Sometimes it’s even more like a boulder, or a avalanche.
We tend to ignore His more ‘gentler’ nudges,
and become unresponsive to His whispers.
So He gets a little more ‘in our face’.
He gives us a storm.
He blocks our path.
He places a u-turn in our life.
Most importantly He brings us back…
Back to the very place He asked us to be in the first place.
Only now, we can see the true desire;
the desire in our own heart.
We see that where we were going was not meant to be.
What was meant to be was where God was originally bringing us.
God knows our desire.
God gave us that desire.
He formed us in that desire.
It may take a storm, but He loves us too much to allow us to wander off with our selfish, worldly desires.
Absolutely and irrevocably.
Surrender YOUR life,
and begin to follow HIS will.
Have you been asking God what He is going to do, or have you been listening to your own selfish wants?
Is there a voice in your heart that you tend to ignore? Our you choosing to ignore the very map that has been written on your heart because you are afraid to go?
Have no fear! Follow that deep desire, listen to God’s whispers, and go find YOU.
